Currency Converter

In short, this live currency converter turns any amount from one currency into another at the interbank rate, the rate banks quote each other and the one you see quoted in the news. Use it before you change money, pay an invoice abroad or judge what a foreign price really costs, because the rate on your card statement is almost never the rate on the screen.

Use our always updated, live interbank rate feed Currency Converter to accurately convert Euro to USD, and many other pairs, including the conversion of the main cryptocurrencies to fiat currencies (the Cryptocurrency & Currency Converter uses live data from the main crypto exchanges).

Get the latest exchange rate of any major currency pair within seconds. Our Cryptocurrency & Currency Converter is the ideal tool for traders investing in international stock exchanges with different currencies. Convert with precision several base currencies, cryptocurrencies, Gold and Silver to the desired currency.

How to Use the Cryptocurrency & Currency Converter

From: Select in this field the ISO code of the currency needed. Several options are available, from major and minor forex pairs and the most popular cryptocurrencies (ADA, BTC, DOGE, ETH, LTC, XRP, etc.). Also available, Gold and Silver. So, in this case, we will select the EUR.

To:
Select in this field the ISO code of the currency to be exchanged. Again, the same options are available, several major and minor FX pairs, the most popular cryptocurrencies, Gold and Silver. For our example we will select the GBP.

Amount:
In our example, Mike knows he will need approximately 850 EUR for his weekend abroad. So, in this field, we will input 850.

The results: Using an interbank real-time feed the Cryptocurrency & Currency Converter will calculate and display the result. For our example, 850 EUR, at a current exchange rate of 0.90208 EUR/GBP, is converted into 766,77 GBP, which is the amount that Mike needs to exchange into EUR for his short-stay in Amsterdam.

The Currency Converter Calculator can also be used to calculate how much any amount of a base currency, exchanged to another currency, is worth. For example, say you have 11,250 USD in your bank account and would like to know how much that represents in JPY.

So, in the first field (From) select USD, on the second field (To) select JPY, then input the amount (11,250). With the current exchange rate at 134.901 for the USD/JPY pair, US$11,250 are precisely JP¥ 1,517,634.906. Wow, with US$11,250 we can be millionaires in Japan!

What the live currency converter shows, and what your bank shows

Basically, there is only one honest exchange rate, the interbank mid rate, and that is what this converter uses. Your bank starts from the same number and then adds a margin, and that margin is therefore where the difference on your statement comes from.

Usually those margins run between 0.5 and 3 percent for a bank transfer, a little more for a card payment abroad, and considerably more at an airport desk. Consequently the amount you receive can differ by several percent from the figure on this page, and the fee line on the receipt rarely mentions it.

A 3 percent margin on 1,000 euros quietly costs 30 euros, and an airport desk costs far more.

Live currency converter example: changing 1,000 euros

For example, say the interbank rate is 1.0850 dollars to the euro, so 1,000 euros is worth 1,085 dollars exactly. Of course, here is what different channels tend to hand over.

Where you change itTypical marginYou receive
Interbank rate0%1,085.00
Online transfer service0.5%1,079.58
High street bank2%1,063.30
Card payment abroad3%1,052.45
Airport exchange desk8%998.20

However, the percentages look small only until you multiply them. For example, on a 20,000 unit business payment, that 2 percent bank margin is 400 units, which is why companies generally compare the quote against the live rate before they confirm anything.

When traders reach for the live currency converter

Besides travel money and invoices, the converter matters to anyone holding a trading account in one currency while trading instruments quoted in another. For instance, a euro account trading gold in dollars carries a conversion on every result, which is why the pip value calculator asks for your deposit currency before it answers.

Similarly, investors buying shares on a foreign exchange face the same issue. However, they rarely notice it until the statement arrives. Indeed, a position can gain in local currency and still lose money once it comes home, so the rate deserves a look before the trade rather than after it.

Live currency converter questions people ask

Why is your rate different from my bank’s? Because this is the interbank mid rate with no margin added, whereas a bank quote always includes one.

How often does it update? Naturally, it follows the live feed, so the figure moves continuously during the trading week. Meanwhile, it sits still over the weekend.

Can I convert gold and silver? Certainly, both are included alongside the currencies. Moreover, they are priced per ounce, as the market quotes them.

Where do I convert coins? For coins, instead use the cryptocurrency converter, which handles Bitcoin, Ethereum and the rest. Finally, for the wider picture on the interbank rate itself, Investopedia explains how banks set it.
