Dawnbreaker, the morning star indicator MT4 that catches the handover between two sides
Turns rarely happen in one candle. A strong push arrives, the next bar goes nowhere, and then the other side takes the wheel. Those three bars together are the oldest reversal story on a chart. Dawnbreaker is a non repainting morning star indicator MT4 that reads that story automatically and prints one arrow on the candle that completes it.
Moreover, it works in both directions. The bullish version is the classic morning star, and the bearish mirror is the evening star at the top. In the chart below the arrow printed on the candle that closed right before gold collapsed, with the stop 180 pips away and 1,020 pips of move behind it.
Real chart, gold on H1. First the strong push up, then the small candle that goes nowhere, and finally the candle that takes the move back and prints the arrow at 4347. With the stop above the whole group at 4365, gold fell around 1,020 pips to 4245 in the hours that followed. We read every price off the chart scale, therefore each figure here rounds against us.
What makes the pattern real
- The first candle has to mean something. A big body compared with the recent average, not a random bar in a quiet stretch.
- The middle candle has to hesitate. Small body, no conviction, the market taking a breath.
- The third candle has to take ground back. It must recover a real share of the first body, which you set yourself.
Most tools that hunt the morning star only check the shapes. As a result, they fire in the middle of nowhere twenty times a day. Dawnbreaker measures every part against the market you are actually on, therefore the same settings behave sensibly on gold and on a slow currency pair.
The filter that changes everything
A reversal pattern needs something to reverse. Dawnbreaker can demand that the first candle sits on the wrong side of the recent average price, so a bullish handover only counts when the market had been falling into it.
You can switch that filter off when you want to see every pattern. However, leaving it on is what turns a long list of shapes into a short list of trades.
How to trade the morning star indicator MT4 arrows
- Take the close of the third candle. That is the bar the arrow belongs to, and the pattern is complete there.
- Stop beyond the extreme of the three. The low of the group for a buy, the high for a sell.
- First target, the start of the push. The open of the first candle is a natural destination, because that is where the move began.
- Then trail. If the handover is real, the market usually keeps going well past that point.
Markets and timeframes
| Gold | H1, the one we recommend, where the handover is cleanest |
| Major forex pairs | M15, H1 and H4 |
| Indices and crypto | H1 and H4, where each candle carries more weight |
On gold we run it on H1. There each candle carries real weight and the handover means something, and the chart above is exactly that case. Also, a handover that lands on a level you already respect is worth far more than one in open space.
What is inside
- Bullish and bearish three bar detection, both with the same rules.
- Body power, hesitation size and recovery share, all adjustable.
- Optional trend filter, so patterns only count against the recent direction.
- Reversal arrows on closed candles only, never repainted.
- Popup, sound, push and email alerts, each one switchable.
- Premium dark chart theme, applied on attach and restored on remove.
Because it reads price only, it runs on any broker and any account size. For a tool that also presses the button, see our automated robots, and the rest of the manual kit lives in our chart tools for traders.
Questions about this morning star indicator MT4
Does it repaint? No. The pattern needs three finished candles, so the arrow appears once and stays.
Does the middle candle need a gap? Not in forex, where gaps are rare. The engine asks for hesitation instead, which is the part that actually matters.
Why do I get so few signals? Because the trend filter is on and the body power is set high. Lower them and the chart fills up quickly.
And the other platform? This is the MetaTrader 4 build. There is also Dawnbreaker for MT5 with identical rules.
