Anvil Press, the inside bar indicator MT4 that trades the moment the coil lets go
Every so often a candle fits completely inside the one before it. Nobody took control, the range shrank, and the market quietly handed the decision to the next few bars. Anvil Press is a non repainting inside bar indicator MT4 that boxes that coil the second it forms and prints one arrow on the candle that finally closes outside the box.
You do not guess the direction. Instead, the market picks it, and then the arrow tells you which side won.
Real chart, gold on M5. The box wraps the bar that holds the smaller ones, only 38 pips from edge to edge. Price stays inside, and then one candle closes clear of the top and the arrow prints at 4319. With the stop on the other edge of the box at 4314, that trade risked 50 pips and gold ran around 350 pips to 4354. A tight coil is what makes that kind of ratio possible. We read every price off the chart scale, therefore each figure here rounds against us.
Why a coil is worth waiting for
A shrinking range means the two sides stopped arguing. Moreover, volume dries up, stops pile up just outside the high and the low, and the next real order finds almost nothing in its way. That is why this small candlestick pattern shows up again and again before the moves that actually run.
However, a coil alone tells you nothing about direction. As a result, most traders pick a side while price is still inside, and the market takes them out on the way to the other edge. Anvil Press refuses to guess. It sits on the box and waits for a close.
What the indicator does on your chart
- It finds the press. One bar inside the previous one is enough, and you can demand two or three in a row for a tighter setup.
- It draws the box. Then the high and the low of the bar that contains the others become the two lines that matter.
- It waits. The box stays alive for the number of bars you choose and then expires, so old coils never fire late.
- It fires once. The first close beyond an edge gives the arrow, and the box disappears.
Everything happens on candles that already closed. Therefore an arrow you see today sits in exactly the same place tomorrow, and the history on your screen matches what you would have received live.
How to trade this inside bar indicator MT4 setup
- Let the box appear. While price is inside, there is nothing to do except get the order ready.
- Take the arrow. Green under the candle means it closed above the box, red above the candle means it closed below it.
- Stop on the other edge. The opposite side of the box is the level that says the break failed.
- Size by the box. A tight coil gives a small stop, so the same risk in money buys a bigger position than usual.
- Target one or two box heights. Simple, mechanical, and it matches the way these breaks tend to travel.
Also, if the market chops through both edges, the break cushion helps. It asks price to close a few points clear of the line instead of just kissing it.
Markets and timeframes
| Gold, longer trades | H1, where a coil can hold for half a day |
| Gold, scalping | M1 and M5, several coils per session |
| Forex and crypto | M15, H1 and H4 |
On gold we use two settings. H1 for the longer trades, where one coil can hold for half a day and the break runs, and M1 or M5 for scalping, where the same shape shows up several times per session. However, the coils that form after a strong move usually break in the same direction, so the trend you already see on the higher chart is a useful second opinion.
What is inside
- Automatic coil box around the bar that contains the pressed ones.
- Breakout arrows on closed candles only, never repainted.
- Minimum number of pressed bars, life span and break cushion, all adjustable.
- Optional dots on every pressed bar, so you can spot the squeeze forming.
- Popup, sound, push and email alerts, each one switchable.
- Premium dark chart theme, applied on attach and restored on remove.
Because it reads price only, it runs on any broker. If you prefer a machine that also places the orders, browse our automated robots, and the rest of the hand trading kit sits in our chart tools for traders.
Questions about the inside bar indicator MT4 version
Does it repaint? No. The box needs a closed candle to exist and the arrow needs a closed candle to print.
How many pressed bars should I ask for? First, one is the classic setup and gives the most signals. In addition, two or three give fewer boxes, and those boxes are usually tighter.
What if price never breaks out? Then the box expires after the life span you set and the indicator forgets it. No late arrows.
Is there a build for the other terminal? Yes. This page is the MetaTrader 4 version, and Anvil Press for MT5 works the same way on MetaTrader 4.
