Battering Ram, the marubozu candle indicator MT5 that flags the full force hit
A marubozu is a candle with no shadows: it opens at one end and closes at the other. In other words, nobody pushed back for the whole bar. When a candle like that also smashes out of the recent range, one side just hit the market with everything it had. Battering Ram is a marubozu candle indicator MT5 that flags exactly that candle and fires one arrow on its close.
The arrow does not repaint, does not move and does not disappear. It needs a closed candle, and once it prints, it stays on the chart where it printed.
Real chart, EURUSD on M5. A full red candle with almost no shadows closes below the low of the last twenty candles, and the sell arrow prints at 1.15012. Then the stop goes above the ram at 1.15185, a risk of 18 pips. After that, the euro dropped to 1.14548, a move of 46 pips, more than twice the risk, within a couple of hours. Finally, every price comes from the exact candle history of that chart.
Why a full body candle matters
First of all, shadows are the marks of a fight. For example, a long upper shadow means buyers pushed and sellers pushed them back. A marubozu has none of that. Instead, one side controlled the price from the first tick to the last, and the other side simply stepped aside.
However, a marubozu on its own can be tiny and meaningless on a quiet chart. That is why Battering Ram asks for two more things: the body must be much bigger than a normal candle, and the close must break out of the recent range. As a result, the arrow only shows up when a real force breaks a real wall.
What Battering Ram checks before it fires
- A heavy body. By default the body must be at least twice the size of an average body in that market.
- Almost no shadows. Together, both shadows must stay under a small share of the whole candle.
- The breach. The close must go past the highest high, or lowest low, of the last twenty candles.
On the other hand, if a heavy full body candle shows up without a breach, the indicator marks it with a small dot, so you can still see the force building without getting an arrow.
How to trade the marubozu candle indicator MT5 signals
- Enter on the close of the ram. After all, the breakout already happened with full force.
- Stop beyond the far end of the ram. Since the candle has no shadows, that end is exactly where the move started.
- Take a first profit at the size of your risk and let the rest run, because these candles often start a leg, not just a bar.
- Avoid the minutes around big news. Also, a ram printed by a news spike can reverse just as fast, so let the dust settle first.
Markets and timeframes
| EURUSD | M5 |
| GBPUSD | M5 |
| Other pairs | M5 and M15 work with the same rules |
In practice, M5 on EURUSD and GBPUSD is where this marubozu candle indicator MT5 looked best. Moreover, the two pairs move with steady volume, so a five minute ram needs real orders behind it.

Questions about this marubozu candle indicator MT5
Does it repaint? No. The arrow needs a closed candle. Once it prints, it does not move and it does not disappear.
Can I see every marubozu, even without a breakout? Yes. Set the breach length to zero and every heavy full body candle gets an arrow.
Does it work on gold? Yes, it reads any symbol. Still, the cleanest rams on our charts came on EURUSD and GBPUSD M5, so that is where we recommend it.
Do you have the other version? Yes. This is the MetaTrader 5 build, and Battering Ram for MT4 flags the same candles on MetaTrader 4.
