Installing a robot in MetaTrader takes two minutes once you know the steps. Here is the simple process for both MT4 and MT5.

Step by step

1. In MetaTrader, open File > Open Data Folder.
2. Go to MQL4 > Experts (MT4) or MQL5 > Experts (MT5) and copy the .ex4 or .ex5 file there.
3. Restart MetaTrader, or right click Expert Advisors in the Navigator and choose Refresh.
4. Open the correct chart (the pair and timeframe the EA is made for) and drag the EA onto it.
5. In the popup, tick Allow Algo Trading and confirm, then make sure the Algo Trading button at the top is green.
6. If the EA includes presets, load them in the EA inputs tab with the Load button.

If the smiley face is sad

A sad face in the top right of the chart usually means Algo Trading is off, or the EA is on the wrong chart. Enable Algo Trading and check you opened the recommended pair and timeframe.
