Range Reaper, the daily range indicator MT5 that knows when the day is finished

Every market has a budget. Gold travels a certain distance on an average day, EURUSD travels another, and when that distance is already spent, the easy part of the move is over. Range Reaper is a non repainting daily range indicator MT5 that measures the budget of the last days, projects it from the open, and marks the bar where the market runs out of road.

First you see the two lines. Then, if price gets there and starts to fail, the arrow appears.

Real chart, gold on H1. The dashed lines are the projected range for the day, drawn from the opening price. Then one candle burns the whole budget in a single hour, stabs at the low and closes back up, so the arrow prints at 4273. With the stop under that low at 4232, gold recovered around 850 pips to 4358. We read every price off the chart scale, therefore each figure here rounds against us.

Why the budget matters so much

  • Late entries die here. Buying at the top of the daily budget is the most common way to catch the exact high of the day.
  • Targets become realistic. If the day has 20 dollars of range left, a 40 dollar target is a wish, not a plan.
  • It tells you when to stop. Once the budget is spent, the rest of the session usually belongs to the range traders.

Therefore the same information serves two very different traders. Moreover, it costs nothing to look at before you click.

How the daily range indicator MT5 builds its lines

The engine walks through the history, groups the candles by day, and stores how far each finished day travelled from its own high to its own low. Then it takes the median of the last several days, which is the same idea behind the average true range but sturdier, and projects that distance up and down from the price where the current day opened. The median matters: one day of panic can double a plain average and push the budget so far away that the market never reaches it.

Because it uses finished days only, the lines stay put. They do not stretch during the session and they do not move when a new candle appears. As a result, what you see at ten in the morning is still there at five in the afternoon.

The lines work even when no arrow ever prints

Most days you will see the two lines and no arrow at all, and that is the tool doing its job. The arrow is the rare part, because it asks the day to spend its whole budget and then fail at the extreme. The lines, however, are useful from the first minute of the session.

  • As a target. If price is near the open and the upper line sits well above, that line is a realistic destination for a long, and the lower one for a short.
  • As a brake. When price is already close to a line, the easy part of the day is gone, so that is a poor place to open in that direction.
  • As a filter. Above the day open line the buyers are in charge of the session, and below it the sellers are.

How the fade signal works

  1. The day spends its budget. The distance from the high to the low of the session reaches the percentage you set, one hundred by default.
  2. Price reaches for the extreme again. The candle has to poke at the high or the low of the day.
  3. It fails. That same candle has to give back a share of its own range and close the other way.
  4. The arrow prints. One per side, per day, so a slow grind along the top does not fill the chart.

Finally, remember that a stretched day can always stretch further. The arrow marks exhaustion, not a promise.

How to trade it

  • Fade towards the middle. The day open line is the natural first target, and it is drawn for you.
  • Stop beyond the extreme. A few points past the high or the low of the day. If price takes it, the budget is being rewritten.
  • Or trade the other way. Many traders use the same lines to take profit on a trend trade instead of opening a new one.
  • Skip the news. A day that opens with a gap and a headline rarely respects its own average.

Markets and timeframes

Gold H1, the one we recommend, with both lines on the screen
Major forex pairs M15 and M30, ten or twenty days
Indices and crypto M30 and H1, shorter average because volatility shifts fast

On gold we run it on H1, which is where both lines sit comfortably on the screen and each candle is worth watching. On M1 and M5 the projected lines usually fall outside the visible part of the chart, so you see the day open line and little else. Ten days is a good default. However, after a violent week you may prefer five, so the budget reflects the market you are in today rather than the quiet one from last month.

What is inside

  • Projected range lines drawn from the open of the current day, plus the open itself.
  • Fade arrows on closed candles only, never repainted.
  • Adjustable number of days, exhaustion percentage and failure confirmation.
  • Optional dot on the bar where the day completes its budget.
  • Popup, sound, push and email alerts, each one switchable.
  • Premium dark chart theme, applied on attach and restored on remove.

Because it reads price only, it runs on any broker and any account. If you would rather let a machine handle the orders, see our automated robots, and the rest of the manual kit lives in our chart tools for traders.

Questions about this daily range indicator MT5

Does it repaint? No. The average uses finished days and every arrow prints on a closed candle.

Does the broker time zone matter? The day starts where your broker says it starts, so two brokers can draw slightly different lines. Pick one and stay with it.

Can I use it only for targets? Yes. Switch the arrows off and keep the lines. Plenty of traders use it exactly that way, and on a quiet day that is all the tool will give you.

And on the other platform? This is the MetaTrader 5 build. There is also Range Reaper for MT4 with the same lines and the same arrows.

Trading involves risk. Signals are information, not advice, so try any new tool on a demo account first and only trade money you can afford to lose.
